Okatie, SC [September 18, 2017] – The replacement of the Shammy Creek waterline was completed and bacteriological samples taken on Friday September 15. Today, Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority (BJWSA) and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) announced that these water sample analyses indicate the water in the Shammy Creek neighborhood is free from bacteria and is safe for human consumption.
The boil advisory for Shammy Creek is now suspended.
The precautionary advisory to boil water used for drinking or cooking was issued September 13 because of a break in the water line during Hurricane Irma.
Additionally, BJWSA suggests that residents flush their systems, running bathtub and sink faucets for 10 minutes or until the water is clear.
BJWSA apologizes for any inconvenience this incident might have caused. If customers have any questions, they may call 843-987-9200 or visit www.bjwsa.org.
