Okatie, SC – March 20, 2018 – The Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) awarded Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) Wastewater Operations Manager Earl Sheppard with the William D. Hatfield Award at its annual South Carolina Environmental Conference last week.
A Beaufort native, Sheppard served as the Vice Chair of the Citizens Advisory Board for the Savannah River Site, Past Chair of the WEASC Sea Island District, WEASC Waste Water Operator of the year 2012, WEASC 5S Member and a member of the SCWQA. The father of three Darien, Jeremiah and Breyanna (and grandfather of Cameron) holds a Degree in Environmental Engineering/Science. Earl is Hazmat certified in chemical recovery and holds 3 South Carolina Class (A) certifications in Physical /Chemical, Biological and Collections Operations. He resides in Burton, South Carolina, where he serves as a trustee at the Central Baptist Church. In his free time, he works with the under privileged youth in the City of Beaufort and visits the sick and elderly frequently. Earl has been with BJWSA for over 24 years serving as the Chief Operator NOBWW for 14 years before becoming the Waste Water Operations Manager.
The Hatfield Award recognizes members who are operators of a water quality control facility who are doing an outstanding job in performance of their duties, as well as to operators demonstrating distinguished professionalism.
This award honors Dr. William D. Hatfield, superintendent of the Decatur, Illinois Sanitary District, and recognizes an operator for outstanding service in the field of treatment plant operations through better public relations, business-like accounting and superior operation and maintenance.
